Liberty Recorder PC Requirements



Liberty Recorder, Audio-Only Recording

The minimum recommended computer requirements for using the Liberty Recorder to record audio-only using multi-channel sound cards are:

  • Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7 operating systems with the latest service pack(s).
  • 2GHz Processor or faster.
  • 1GB Memory (RAM) or greater.
  • An appropriate connection port (Usually USB) or an available PCI slot, as determined in conjunction with your Liberty sales representative.
  • A standard Windows compatible mono sound card with headphones, for ongoing monitoring, if required.
  • Sufficient hard-drive space to save the recording files.

Liberty Recorder, Video Recording

The minimum recommended computer requirements for using the Liberty Recorder to record multi-channel video are:

  • Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7 with the latest service pack(s).
  • 3.4GHz i7 Intel Processor or faster.
  • 4GB Memory (RAM) or greater.
  • An an available PCI slot, or 1GB IP Network connection, as determined in conjunction with your Liberty sales representative.
  • A standard Windows compatible mono sound card with headphones, for ongoing monitoring, if required.
  • Sufficient hard-drive space to save the recording files.

The Liberty Recorder runs on a standard PC or laptop with Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7, with the latest Microsoft updates. The computer should have a standard sound card to monitor the ongoing recording levels, if required.

The Liberty Recorder supports a number of different multi-channel sound cards through industry standard interfaces. Support includes WAV devices including both WDM and ASIO devices. The Liberty Recorder also supports a number of different video capture cards through the standard "Direct X" interface. Please consult High Criteria or your Liberty dealer for more information about suitable sound or video cards to address your requirements.

The site must also provide sufficient storage capacity to retain the recordings. Installations may choose to save the recording files on the local computer, or on a central data repository. In the former case, the recording PC should have sufficient space to retain the files for the required period of time. In the latter case, the server should have sufficient capacity. Regardless of where the data is saved, appropriate measures must be taken to provide for backup and recovery of the data. Note that the multi-channel files created by the Liberty Recorder are standard computer files and may be moved, copied and saved, just as any other computer file. Standard file backup strategies including data mirroring, and RAID configurations are applicable to the Liberty files.

Liberty Player

The minimum computer requirements for using the Liberty Player are:

  • Windows 98 2nd Edition or later.
  • A standard Windows compatible mono sound card with headphones or speakers.
  • An optional foot pedal (USB connection) to control playback is available, if required.

The Liberty Player will run on any standard PC or laptop with a Windows 98 or later operating system. The computer must be equipped with a standard sound card which will be used for audio play-back. The Liberty Player is a no-cost download, available from the Liberty Recording web site. The Player allows users to access and listen to individual channels within a .dcr file. Any combination of individual channels may be selected during play-back. The Liberty Player may also be used to Export a .dcr file into a .wav or .wma file than may be played by other players such as Windows Media Player.

Note that older PCs may not have sufficient resources to playback video files created by the Liberty Recorder.

Optionally, play-back may be controlled using a VEC Infinity USB foot-pedal. The pedal may be obtained from any third-party or is also available from High Criteria and associated Liberty dealers. Computers must run Windows 98 2nd Edition or later and must be equipped with a USB connection, in order to use the foot-pedal.
